This day trip will bring you to Montalcino and to the heart of the valley “Val d’Orcia”, recognized by the UNESCO as world heritage. The tour starts in the southern part of the valley, being famous for their olive production and for small family owned farmhouses and stops in Montalcino – the heart of the Brunello wine production.
During this tour you will discover the beautiful and unique colors of its countryside, characterized by the rolling hills, yellow fields of wheat and cypresses, its delicious flavors and learn more about the characteristics of its soil and climatic conditions that contributes to the production of the typical products of the “Val d’Orcia”.
After your departure from Florence you pass by the rolling hills of the Chianti zone, the woods and valleys of the northern part of the Maremma until you reach Montenero d’Orcia at the southern borderline of the Val d’Orcia, near the “Monte Amiata”. In this small Tuscan hamlet Claudia (associated of the Italian Association of Sommelier – A.I.S.) will welcome you and introduce you in the program and in the tastings of the day. Together you visit a renowned Frantoio and discover the secrets of their Olive Oil production. Of course, you have the possibility to taste three different olive oils.
Then you have only a few minutes drive to a small family farm and winery where you can visit the livestock of the animals raised with care by the family Pieri. The family introduces you in their local meat production and together you visit their winery where they explain to you the characteristics of the Montecucco DOC production. You taste 2 wines combined with the artisanal meat products made personally by Mr. Carlo, together with their Olive Oil. Then, we can pass by the butcher and learn some secrets about the local meat production.
After those visits you move closer to the center of Montalcino at 470m above sea level where a small family owned winery arranges a farmer light lunch for you. During lunch you have the possibility to taste their Sparkling Rosè, the Rosso di Montalcino DOC, their Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Selection and their Grappa.
After visiting the winery you stop by the center of Montalcino and you have some time to have a digestive walk, to take a coffee or to make some shopping in the remarkable wine shops of the village.
After the relaxed walk in Montalcino you depart at about 4:30pm to Florence and hopefully plan your next trip to Montalcino or Val d’Orcia.
